Atmosphere: Really felt like I was in India. No music playing or anything. There is a small convenient store adjacent to the restaurant. Felt like I took a time machine back to the 1980s. Interior Decor: Bland and minimalistic. Grimy. Can use a thorough cleaning. Service: Can't comment because I got my food for take out, but when I was there, the gentleman that was working made a costumer get up and walk over to the cash register to pick up the plastic bags for his to go box. Food: Both dishes were solid. Good portions. Price: ~$20 for the tikka masala and garlic nan. Seems a little overpriced.

I was just passing through on my way from Holland, MI to Mt Pleasant MI. I decided to goto this restaurant on my way. I thought they had a buffet, and would make for a quick lunch option. I was aghast to find that they did not have buffet on the weekend. I took a chance and ordered 2 simple dishes - Dal tadka, chapati roti, and Saag paneer. There was only one lady managing the store and cooking, and she turned out the dishes in 20 minutes. They were AWESOME! and authentic tasting. I would return if i go through grand rapids again.

Solid meal and authentic vibes. It's the kind of place you can get some standard Indian food and enjoy some Bollywood musicals on the TV. Your waiter might even sing his way across the room while delivering the food.

This place is good. Legit Indian food (delicious!), good for vegetarians, and they just put in a patio out front.

Awesome food. I've been there twice; the first visit I ordered the lamb saag(spinach, lamb, and an indian herb sauce---and cilantro to top!) and the second visit I ordered the aloo mutter (peas and potatoes in an Indian spiced sauce) and I was satisfied with both dishes. Although I could have done with more lamb in the lamb saag, the dish was well balanced and well seasoned, which is a merit considering there was no dairy used in the recipe. The aloo mutter was a vegan dish, and was flavorful and complex (another merit considering that vegan dishes at most restaurants are typically dreadful.) The atmosphere was charming, with a pleasant set of decorations and color scheme. Not upscale, but these details aren't very important considering the food makes up for it.

Visited India Town twice in the past week and rest assured the food does not disappoint. Recommend ordering the Chicken Tandori & Garlic Naan. A great combination that's well priced. I also had the pleasure of meeting Tony, the owner & he was a great gentleman. Will certainly return for authentic Indian cuisine & friendly service.

Just got done eating the buffet and it was great. Don't ask me the names of the dishes, but they were all amazing! The flavors are great, just the right amount of spice. Don't get me wrong, it's still spicy, but not the burn your face off, Thai kind of spicy. Owner was very attentive to our needs and friendly and the complementary nan bread reminded me of the time I spent a month in India. This meal was all around nostalgia to me. I will be coming here again!

Do not make the mistake of eating elsewhere. The food is fresh, spiced well, complex and delicious! How anybody gives less than 5*'s is beyond me. I guess if you are one of those lame reviewers who knocks off stars for decor and ambiance you could give it a 4* but I couldn't care less about that. I'm looking for GOOD FOOD! And that's what I found tonight. The service was prompt and friendly. The food came out very quickly...and was hot and...did I mention FRESH! Yes. There's no hiding it. There is no substitution for fresh food. DELICIOUS! Yum...my mouth is watering just thinking about the awesome meal I just had. So...I had the Samosa Chatt to start. It was AWESOME! Don't skip it! There are very few Indian restaurants that serve this and it is a true delicacy YUM! I followed that up with a Navartan Korma. This is a tricky dish...and easy to screw up. Thankfully they nailed it! My only regret is that I may never have the opportunity to return. So forget any other review that has anything bad to say about this place. I travel all around the country and I have tried at least 50 Indian restaurants from coast to coast in the last couple years. This is literally in the top 3 of all time. I'm talking about SF, NY, Boston...big cities...fancy restaurants...dives...holes in the wall you name it...if it's Indian and has semi-decent reviews and I'm in the area I'll try it. I ALMOST didn't come because of the 3.5* but when I read what those losers were complaining about...buffet...I knew what was going on. Buffets always suck. Spices are expensive and Indian buffet is never ever ever as good as the dinner entree that's spiced to order. So please people...don't give a review based on an Indian food restaurant buffet. I've only ever been to one that was as good as the dinner. Even my top #1 favorite Indian restaurant of all time...their buffet isn't nearly as good as the dinner. They can't make the dishes spicy on the buffet...a lot of people can't handle spice...and the result is bland food. Close this...map it...GO NOW!

This was the best Indian food I've had in the GR area. The restaurant itself is tricky to find, and completely unpretentious, but the food was authentic and delicious. I had the Vegetable Jalfarazi, which was flavorful and freshly made. Every thing tasted freshly made... I think there was one woman cooking it all herself, so the food took a little longer to get, but that was not a problem. My mom said the garlic naan was some of the best naan she ever had. The atmosphere is sparse but friendly and homey, and there is a shop attached that we browsed around while waiting for our food. Lots of clothing, Bollywood dvds, and a grocery section. Really interesting things you would not find anywhere else. I would strongly recommend this restaurant to any lover of Indian cuisine.

I'm disappointed that the lunch buffet hasn't been up and running the last 4 times I've been here even though the LUNCH BUFFET red neon sign is lit. No lunch specials or reduced lunch rates with smaller portions (i don't have a place to put leftovers at lunch), but the food is really good.

Flavorful and delicious. They have a neat colored papadam I have never seen before. I had the lunch buffet, chicken was tender and the cooked veggies were perfectly spiced. Can't wait to cone back. Everyone is so friendly. :)

Definitely the best Indian I have eaten in quite some time. I have beads of sweat dripping off my forehead after tasting this incredible chicken tiki masala. The tomato and onion give it just the right twist , and the flavor bursts all around . The Mango Lassie was just the right thing to quench the fire of the chicken tiki. Portion was more than enough. I will definitely come visit again . Thanks Tony for a great dinner in Grand Rapids best kept secret out-of-the-way place!

We had a very positive experience tonight at India Town. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and a vegetarian dish with yellow lentils. We also ordered the whole wheat Roti bread. We are from Chicago and eat Indian food often, and found both dishes and the Roti quite delicious and comparable with good Indian dishes in Chicago. All food is hand-made and fresh, including the cheese and sauces. The owner, Tony, was extremely friendly and open with us. He was very helpful in answering any questions we have and even offered medical/ayervedic advice on certain topics he knew of, which came up in discussion. The overall experience was positive on all levels. I highly recommend the food and warm, friendly atmosphere of this restaurant.

Incredible Indian food. I got samosas, lamb vindaloo and garlic naan. The flavor is outstanding.

Cooks fresh. Tried the Dal Tadka and Gobi-Palak sabji. Dal Tadka was ok. Personally I felt it was a little too salty. The Gobi-Palak sabji was good. Tawa Roti was good too.

My friend from Indian and I were the only people at India Town for the lunch buffet at noon on a weekday. The food was not good. Just don't go there. Don't do it. Nothing was flavorful, the chutneys were bad, and the veggies looked and tasted like the frozen pea, carrot and corn mix. The tandoori chicken wasn't worth eating. The only reason why this place received 1 star is the naan bread. It's made from scratch and baked hot in the tandoori oven.

The food is really good but the prices are quite high. $15 for a lunch entree. It's filling and yummy. Also if you are a woman....don't go there alone. The owner is too friendly to the point where it is very uncomfortable. I don't go there without my husband. it's too bad because the place has a lot of potential but when i'm hungry, i don't appreciate being hit on.

Best Indian food in GR! We just discovered this place last week. The food is amazing. Tony is a great host. Place is friendly and clean. Highly recommended for a casual dinner.

Love love this place. I pick up take out on my way home from the airport and it is sometimes the best part of my trip. They wrap things so well you don't have to worry about leakage in your car. The chicken tikka and korma are amazing but be sure you try the deconstructed samosas. Incredible!!!

Met friends there for a evening meeting. WoW, this was the second time I have been there and I will go back. The Lamb was to die for. If you want fast food go to McDonalds, take some time and check this place out.

Me and my wife went here after reading some mixed reviews about this place. When we went there for lunch, it was empty and the buffet looked very unappetizing. We ordered from the menu and after over 30 mins of waiting, we got the beverages (lassi was sub standard). Then the food came - it was salty with no taste of the actual ingredients of the entree; we ordered paneer masala and malai kofta, both were unidentifiable after tasting. We felt we could've tried ANY Indian restaurant in grand rapids and it would have been better than this one. To add to the disappointment, the prices are not reasonable. The entrees were each $11 which is wayyyyyyyyy more than you would pay for how it tastes. The koftas had no flavor and our only savior was the raita and plain rice! We finished our meal swiftly and left with a regret that we didn't go to Palace of India or Bombay Palace. If you want good Indian food, this is NOT the place to go!!

I've been craving Indian food. So I planned my day around going to Division to sample the mutter paneer and naan (my favorite dish as a vegetarian). I ordered the takeout and sped home, giddy to try this new place. All was not well. The mutter paneer was watered down. The paneer (cheese cubes) were bland and chewy. The rice was dry. The naan, while generous with the portion, was soggy. And I was disappointed as I chewed. I was so saddened. Even more so because this place seemed legit. Indian people served me. The restaurant had the feel of an ethnic grocery store, with the fluorescent lighting, padded chairs, and cash register. Bottom line: No bueno. I'm sorry India House, I really wanted to love you. But.. mind over matter, food over mind.

Amazing and authentic. One of my tests of Indian food is Tandoori chicken. It was truly amazing. After that, i went on a Tandoori chicken binge. I travel for work and all I ate was Indian for the next few weeks in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. His chicken was perfection - perfectly spiced and marinated, perfectly cooked. Naan was great too - nice, large, freshly cooked. I've been there a few times and everything is always freshly prepared and to the same high standards as my first visit. I always get it to take to my hotel, so no comments on service dining in.

Excellent Chicken Korma & Lamb Tikka Masala, very very good samosa's and excellent, very garlic-y naan. We even sampled their Mango drink and the galub jamun for dessert which was sweet & yummy. You're allowed your own alcoholic beverages, so we brought our own in a small cooler. We drove 30 miles to get there and we'll do it again, India Town was delicious!

IMHO This is the best Indian restaurant in town. You enter through the grocery store side and the first thing you smell is all the good spices they sell and you know you are in a for a treat on the restaurant side. Tony one of the owners is very funny and friendly. He really adds to the experience. I uslually get one of the lamb dishes. I've tried a different one every time and they are all good. They serve it in a way that is easy to share so bring a friend and try a couple different dishes. Garlic lovers will want to order the Garlic Naan with your meal.

I am not an expert in Indian cuisine, but I have visited India Town a few times with a group of friends and always had a good experience India Town is smallish restaurant and store on Division. There is a parking lot in the back, but don't blink or you'll miss the alleyway entrance! I believe it is family owned and run, as you'll find that the greeter, waiter, and chef all appear to be the same person. However, I've never seen the place so busy that it suffers terribly from this issue. Food always tasted fresh, had good spice, and were fairly large portions. The naan and samosas were very good and I think I need to go back to get some more Rogan josh. Some possible downsides? Well, don't expect your food at lightning speed (maybe call for pickup instead?) And the owner, while very friendly and helpful, might spook some people as being overly attentive if they wish for privacy. Neither of these issues were so critical for me. Definitely worth a visit.
